AMID a 29 per cent surge in applications to the University of Exeter this year and a booming market for international students, the developer behind Dean Clarke Lofts has adopted a unique, new tactic. Focussing on elite accommodation and VIP packages for students, including chauffeured Mercedes pick-ups from all UK airports, he is set to take the student experience in the city to new heights.
THE popularity of the pioneering luxury student build in Exeter has rocketed following its launch with all of the 30 units now being let ahead of schedule.
Demand for the accommodation, located in the former Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on Southernhay, went through the roof following the release of an initial 10 lofts in March by Academy Property Consultants, a surge which prompted a second phase of studios to been released before the scheduled date.
It comes as the University of Exeter reported a rise of 34,000 applications for the 2014 academic year – a rise of 29 per cent – following A-level results day. The university also ranks number seven in the Sunday League Tables, has been named The Sunday Times University of the Year and has undergone a £475 million makeover at its Exeter and Cornwall Campuses.
“These are exciting times for Exeter and for the student accommodation sector in the city. The success of the Dean Clarke Lofts development proves there is a clear demand for luxury, best of the best student accommodation.
“It is fantastic news that all lofts have been let and all were let ahead of schedule,” said Mark Edworthy, managing director of Dean Clarke Estate Ltd, the company responsible for the high-end student accommodation.
It puts the accommodation on par with the University of Exeter’s sights to be recognised as one of the top universities in the world.
Students will begin to move into the new lofts on September 1 and the new VIP packages will help to provide the little home-from-home luxuries.
The new VIP meet and greet service has been created to smooth the transition from moving abroad to the UK. Students will be met at the airport and taken by their own luxury chauffeur driven car to Dean Clarke Lofts – with a choice of traveling in a Mercedes E Class or a Mercedes Viano from Heathrow or Gatwick.
The service will also be available from other regional airports or train stations.
Steve Trave, managing director of Academy, the RICS regulated managing agent at the development, said: “With around a quarter of the University of Exeter’s students being international and a rising interest in the University on a global level, the introduction of the meet and greet service will prove invaluable to those who are coming to Dean Clarke Lofts from abroad, while also helping to bridge the gap between Exeter and the Far East.”
Other VIP packages include kitchen kits, study packs, Aloe Vera Refresh Packs, Connectivity Arrival Packs and Sleeping and Bedtime sets, including 10.5 tog bedding and luxury Egyptian cotton towels.
The developers are now turning their attention to the renovation of the rest of Dean Clarke House which will be transformed into prestigious, luxury apartments.
